Chief Sparkle Spreader’s Essential 7: The Soundtrack to Running NotLuck
Over the years, there have been many tools I’ve used running my businesses.
Strategy.
Systems.
Notes to myself.
Occasional dramatic huffs and puffs.
But the most underrated and powerful one for me is
...music.
At NotLuck, we don’t just get shit done.
We curate the energy we bring to getting them done.
Because energy shifts everything.
⚡️ Some days you need hype.
⚡️ Some days you need belief.
⚡️ Some days you need to feel like the main character building something that matters. (’Cos you are 💪🏼)
So here it is.
My official, entirely serious, slightly chaotic:
Chief Sparkle Spreader Essential 7 — The Business Soundtrack.
1. Client finally pays their invoice
"Dog Days Are Over" - Florence + The Machine
You know the moment.
The notification.
The exhale.
The “oh, thank fuck for that!”
There is no better soundtrack to that relief-into-celebration arc!
Dramatic. Victorious. Let’s Go!
Invoice cleared → Florence on → Volume up → Sparkle restored.
2. When imposter syndrome needs to do one
“Believe (Ministers Vocal Mix)” – Ministers De La Funk ft. Jocelyn Brown
Imposter syndrome always has impeccable timing.
...right before you raise your prices.
...right before you hit publish.
...right before you do the brave thing.
This isn’t the moment for quiet affirmations.
This is the time for a full-bodied house anthem that grabs you by the shoulders and says:
“errrr excuse me??! Remember who you are.”
For me, belief definitely sounds like Jocelyn Brown. On full volume.
Is this something I actively do? 100% Jocelyn is ready when I need her
3. Hitting “publish” on the scary thing
“Titanium” – David Guetta ft. Sia
There is a particular kinda flavour of fear that comes right before visibility.
🫣 Your finger hovers.
🫣 Your brain offers 17 reasons to wait.
🫣 Your nervous system throws a tiny protest.
And then:
“I am titanium…”
…a bravery switch.
Not because I’m suddenly feel fearless - far from it - but because I remember that success can be scary and I can withstand being seen.
Press publish.
Be seen.
Let it land.
4. Before a big client call, workshop, or pitch
“I'm Coming Out ” – Diana Ross
Iconic.
It’s glamorous declaration, isn't it?
To me, it feels like:
💃🏼 Stepping into visibility instead of hovering at the edge
💃🏼 Owning your voice instead of softening it
💃🏼 Walking into the meeting like you’re the headline act
and I definitely feel like it's less “prove yourself” and far more “this is who I am”.
As I approach the end of Level 49 in life, and business, that’s the energy I’m interested in.
Energy walks into a room before you do so I choose mine carefully.
5. When creativity feels flat
There are always going to be days where ideas don’t flow or you feel like your energy is getting a bit stagnant.
Blank screen.
Heavy sigh.
Mild existential questioning.
I don't believe those are the times for “trying harder”, I think those are the moments for “changing your state”.
When our children were young, we didn’t always use a naughty step - we often used to use the trampoline.
We’d send them to the garden for a bounce out rather than a time out.
Bertie sent me on a bounce out one day - and it really works. You can’t be grumpy or stagnant when you’re bouncing, shaking or moving.
So let Taylor help you out for 3mins.
Volume up.
Even dance badly if you want to ‘cos creativity doesn’t respond well to pressure.
Sometimes the most strategic thing you can do for your business… is shake it off.
6. Meeting with your biggest fan client
You know the client -
🥹 The one who reads everything.
🥹 Shares your work.
🥹 Refers people.
🥹 Says, “I love how your brain works.”
You get off those calls feeling seen, supported and reminded why you started in the first place.
“Wonderwall” has that nostalgic, arm-swaying, slightly emotional energy. It’s not hype, it’s a mutual appreciation.
Because businesses aren’t built on transactions alone.
They’re built on relationships.
Sometimes your biggest growth comes from the people who believe in you consistently.
7. Deep focus. Time for Maximum Braining.
Over the last 20+ years I've learned that not every powerful moment in business is loud.
Some of it is quiet. Intentional. Expansive.
This song is my soundtrack to:
Contemplation
Strategy
Architecture
Long-term thinking
This melody slows everything down just enough for clarity to land.
Sparkle doesn’t always shout.
Sometimes it glows.
Why This Matters
Music has the capacity to move us from one state to another. It can change the direction or your mood and your decisions.
Decisions change outcomes.
So for me, this isn’t just a playlist.
💫 It’s emotional regulation.
💫 It’s confidence on demand.
💫 It’s creative recovery.
💫 It’s celebration.
💫 It’s vision.
This is the real soundtrack behind my contributions to the NotLuck team.
So now I need to know, what tracks would add to this list and why??
