An XML sitemap is a file that lists all the pages on a website in a structured format, helping search engines crawl and index your content more efficiently. It's written in XML (eXtensible Markup Language) and typically includes metadata for each URL, such as when it was last updated, how often it changes, and its importance relative to other pages on the site. Submitting an XML sitemap to search engines helps bots discover and index all your important pages, which can improve the site's visibility in search results and its overall SEO performance.

To add an XML sitemap to a domain, head to the Settings section and select Domains from the left-hand menu.

Add XML Sitemap

Find the domain you want to add the sitemap to and click Manage.

Open the 3-dot menu to access the XML sitemap option.

Sitemap Generator

Clicking on XML Sitemaps opens a pop-up with the sitemap generator, where you can see all websites or funnels associated with the domain. Select or deselect the ones you want to include. Opening a specific funnel or website shows a list of its pages, letting you choose which to include or exclude from the sitemap. Once you've made your selections, click "Proceed".

📌Note: Only choose the website and funnel pages you want Google to crawl and associate with that domain.

Custom XML Sitemap

This is the custom URL path assigned to your XML sitemap when it's created. It's fully configurable and can be updated at any time. If you change this URL path, resubmit your sitemap to Google for re-crawling.

When you're ready, click "Generate & Save" to create the sitemap.

Submit the URL shown in the pop-up to your Google Search Console account to let Google know you want your pages crawled and indexed.

Then click "Okay" to return to your domains list.

Following these steps will add an XML sitemap to your domain, helping to improve your site's search visibility and SEO performance.

✍️Important Notes

  • If your site's pages are properly linked, Google can usually find most of your content. A sitemap helps with the crawling process, particularly for larger or more complex sites, or sites with specialised files.
  • Submitting a sitemap doesn't guarantee that every item will be crawled and indexed, as Google's crawling schedule is determined by complex algorithms. That said, it generally benefits your site and having a sitemap will never result in penalties.
