The Order Submitted trigger lets you upsell customers after they've submitted an order. It works with both 1-step and 2-step order forms, giving you flexibility to tailor upsell opportunities based on the form type or the specific products purchased.
It activates when an order form is submitted, and again when an upsell purchase occurs, capturing the relevant product information each time. So if a customer buys products A and B through the order form and then picks up product C through an upsell, the trigger fires twice: once for the primary products and once for the upsell item.
Order Submitted vs. Order Form Submitted
There are a few key differences between the Order Submitted trigger and the Order Form Submitted trigger:
- Trigger Activation: The Order Submitted trigger can run multiple times for each product purchased, whereas the Order Form Submitted trigger only activates once, even if multiple products are purchased within a single session.
- Filter Capabilities: The Order Submitted trigger allows filtering based on global product/price, which the Order Form Submitted trigger does not.
- Custom Value Usage: The Order Submitted trigger enables the use of order-related custom values within the workflow, such as adding customer details, order information, coupon data, and payment methods to an email. These custom values are only available if the Order Submitted trigger is included in the workflow's setup.
With that in mind, go to Automation > Workflows in your account and add the Order Submitted trigger to a new or existing workflow.

Workflow Trigger Name
Update the name of the trigger to accurately represent its intended purpose.

Trigger Customisation Options
The Order Submitted trigger provides a range of filters to customise workflows according to various order details. Click the "Add Filters" button to customise your trigger.
Global Product
The "Global Product" filter lets you trigger workflows based on a specific global product or price. You can select 'Is' or 'Is not' and choose a product from the dropdown.

Order Source
The "Order Source" filter lets you specify the source of the order. Choose 'Is' or 'Is not' and select an order source from the dropdown.

Sub-Source
For Order Forms, External Sources, or Stores, you can specify the sub-source you're interested in.

If "Order Form" is chosen as the source, you can refine the trigger further using the following filters:
In Funnel/Website
The "In Funnel/Website" filter ensures the workflow only triggers when an order form is submitted through a specific funnel or website. Select 'Is' or 'Is not' and pick the funnel or website from the dropdown.

Page Is
The "Page Is" filter triggers the workflow when a form is submitted on a specific page in the funnel or website. You can select 'Is' or 'Is not' and choose a specific page from the dropdown. For example, selecting the "Registration Form" page in a funnel will trigger the workflow only when the form on that particular page is completed.

Submission Type
The Submission Type filter lets you customise workflow triggers based on the type of purchase the customer makes:
- Bump: Triggers if a bump product is purchased.
- Primary: Triggers if a primary product is purchased at checkout.
- Upsell: Triggers if an upsell product is purchased.

Product Price
The "Product Price" filter is useful when a product has multiple pricing options, such as a regular price and a promotional price. Choose 'Is' or 'Is not' and select the price from the dropdown.

These options give you flexibility in setting up highly tailored workflows.
By making use of the various filters, operators, and custom value options, you can use this trigger to build workflows that maximise revenue from existing customers while delivering a more personalised shopping experience.
✍️Important Notes
- If you want the workflow to trigger for both a primary product and an upsell purchase, ensure that the Allow Multiple setting is toggled on.
- Avoid using "Wait steps" if you plan on selling Upsells or Bumps for the same product, as this could prevent the upsell trigger from firing properly. If a customer proceeds to purchase an upsell after the primary product, the workflow will not re-trigger.
