The "Create an Associated Record" action lets you create new custom object records and associate them with a specific contact, keeping related information organised and supporting more efficient workflow management.

📌Note: Before using this feature, you will need to create an association for the object in the Object Settings in your account.

How It Works

Navigate to Automation > Workflows, and either create a new workflow from scratch or open an existing contact-based workflow.

📌Note: This feature helps you manage and track related entities tied to contacts, so it won't appear in Object-based workflows.

Add the relevant workflow triggers and actions, then add the Create an Associated Record action to generate a new custom object.

Action Name

Give the action a name that makes its purpose clear.

Object Record to Create

Choose the appropriate custom object from the dropdown menu.

After selecting the object, choose the contact owner and follower from the dropdown.

Next, choose which fields to populate. You can add multiple fields to the new object record by clicking the "+ Add Field" button.

Set the appropriate association label to link the record. An association label is used to categorise the relationship between the contact and the custom object.

Finally, save the action and activate the workflow to automate the process as required.

The "Create Associated Record for Contact" action makes it straightforward to automate the creation of custom object records and link them to contacts, simplifying how you track and manage key business processes.

Practical Example

Consider a company that needs to track important dates. When an Opportunity is marked as "Won," the system should automatically create a custom object record for tracking these dates. When the workflow is triggered, it automatically creates the record and associates it with the contact, so you can track the information easily.

✍️Important Notes

  • The newly created object record is automatically linked to the contact, using the selected label for categorisation.
  • You can utilise custom values and merge fields to dynamically populate custom fields in the newly created object.
