The Best CRM for Trades and Service Businesses in the UK

If you're a plumber, electrician, builder, landscaper, cleaner, or any kind of service business, you might think CRMs are for "corporate types" with big sales teams and boardrooms.

They're not. In fact, trades and service businesses are exactly the kind of businesses that benefit most from a CRM. Because you're busy doing the actual work, which means the admin, the follow-ups, and the lead management are the first things that slip.

Here's what to look for and what we recommend.

What Trades and Service Businesses Actually Need

Let's be practical about this. You don't need a CRM with a hundred features. You need one that does these things well:

Captures leads from your website and social media. When someone fills in your contact form or messages you on Facebook, it goes straight into the system. No more manually copying details.

Sends automatic replies. You're on a job. You can't answer the phone. The CRM sends a text or email instantly: "Thanks for getting in touch, I'll come back to you within the hour."

Tracks your pipeline. Who's enquired, who's got a quote, who's booked in, who's paid. Visual, simple, one screen.

Lets you text and email from one place. No more switching between your phone, email, and WhatsApp trying to piece together a conversation.

Asks for reviews automatically. Job done? The CRM sends a review request. No awkward asking.

Works on your phone. Because you're rarely at a desk.

Our Recommendation: GoHighLevel

We've tested and set up a fair few CRMs for trades clients. For most, GoHighLevel ticks every box above and then some.

It's all-in-one, so you don't need separate tools for email marketing, booking, texting, and review management. It's got a mobile app that actually works. And it's affordable, especially compared to paying for four or five separate subscriptions.

The main downside is the learning curve. GHL has a lot of features, and if you're not tech-savvy, setting it up yourself can be daunting. That's why most of our trade clients have us build and configure it, then train them on the bits they need to use day to day.

Other Options Worth Considering

Jobber is specifically built for home service businesses. It's simpler than GHL but more limited. Good for scheduling and invoicing, less good for marketing automation.

Tradify is another trade-specific option. Clean interface, easy quoting and invoicing. But it's really a job management tool with light CRM features, not the other way around.

HubSpot Free gives you a basic CRM with contact management and pipeline tracking. No texting, no booking, no review management. But it's free, so it's a decent starting point if you just need to get organised.

Why It Matters More Than You Think

Here's a scenario I see constantly. A homeowner needs a new bathroom. They message three businesses on Facebook. Business A replies four hours later with "Hi, I can do Tuesdays and Thursdays, when works for you?" Business B doesn't reply until the next day. Business C has a CRM that instantly sends: "Thanks for your message! I'd love to help. Here's a link to book a free consultation call: [link]."

Business C gets the job. Not because they're better at fitting bathrooms. Because they responded first and made it easy to take the next step.

That's the power of a CRM for a trades business. It's not about being fancy. It's about not losing work because you're too busy doing work.

Getting Set Up

If you're a trades or service business and you've been meaning to get more organised with your leads, here's my suggestion: don't overcomplicate it. Pick a CRM, set up the basics (pipeline, auto-reply, review requests), and start using it.

You'll wonder why you waited so long.
